What is audio description?
A narration of the important things shown on screen, voiced in the pauses between dialogue, for people who are blind or have low vision. WCAG 2.1 AA requires it for recorded video (1.2.5) when the picture carries information the soundtrack doesn't.
Do school board meeting videos need audio description?
Often, but not always. A meeting where everything is said out loud needs only captions. Slides that aren't read aloud, a vote by show of hands, or names shown only on screen need describing.
Do sports videos need audio description?
Usually. Highlight reels with music show the plays and the score only in the picture. A game replay with full play-by-play commentary may need little; one without commentary needs description.
Do livestreams need audio description?
Not while they're live. The replay that stays on your channel is recorded video, so it needs captions and, where applicable, audio description.
Is sign language required?
No. Sign language interpretation (1.2.6) is Level AAA, beyond the AA level the rules require.
